I have a lot of old text books, non-fiction, fiction books that I need to get rid of. Used book stores aren't interested in them and I don't want to throw them away or destroy them. What should I do with them?

Donate them to your local library...they will appreciate them.

At least some of them you may have to throw away because they may be out of date or demand (like old science/math books, or harlequine-type romance novels), but sit down with some friends and go through them. Most hard back fiction or famous author titles can be donated to public libraries around your state of province. Make sure you get on the phone and find which will accept donations.

Sell, give away or trade. Make a list of all books you own, hang it on the wall in local schools or university, or library. If you want to give away you will get rid of them faster though, than selling- If youre selling, have a cheap price.

Or why not go to a secon hand store and leave your books there? Or Red Cross?

If youre lazy for all the things I mentioned lol... then just recycle it all to paper. At least some good will still come out of it.

:)

You can donate them to a library; although lots of times libraries do not take old text books.
You can donate them to AmVets, Good Will, the Salvation Army, Ahomeless Shelter, or aShelter for Domestic Violence Victims, or a Mission.
You can recycle them.
Good Luck.

Don't donate them to your local library. They have budgets and selection committees with which to fill their shelves.

Donate them to charity, such as a second-hand shop.
Donate them to a nursing home or residential hospital (such as a rehabilitation facility, mental institution, or VA hospital).
Donate them to your local jail or a prison. (Call first, because most institutions like that don't allow hardbacked books--prisoners can make deadly weapons out of them. No, I am not joking.)
Donate them to a homeless or a battered women's shelter.

If none of those ideas appeals to you, sell them on Half.com, or have a yard sale. You can keep the money or you can donate it to charity.

Explore your options. There are a lot of places out there that need books, and would be happy to take at least part of your two tons off your hands.

Best of luck!

You can donate them to a homeless shelter or a shelter for battered and abused women. They might be in a bad place in their lives right now, so a good book might be a form of escape for them, or a distraction, or maybe even something to read to their kids for a sense of normalcy. You can also try to sell them online. Or you can be a part of http://www.bookcrossing.com/home where you leave books at different places, and other people go search for them, then they get to enjoy reading them, like you did!

Ask a local library if they take donations. Our town has a probram called "Friends of the Library" who raise money for our library and provide books. Goodwill, the Salvation Army or any thrift store would probably take them.

Well, depending on the type of books, like children's or adults, you could donate them to charity. If they are childrens books, you can give them to organizations like GoodWill or Toys For Tots. There are plenty of places such as hospitals or orphanages...you get my point. So that's just a good thing to do for your community.

i think you should give to your local home for battered women or a home for homeless teens or something like that. that is what i am doing with the books i don't want anymore. i also have a bunch of friends who are high school teachers so i gave them a couple they thought some students might like as well.
