If you're not the boss's buddy, your just screwed? Not only do they not listen to reason, they just aren't interested in what you have to say in any given argument. Not the way it is when you observe them with other "buddy-like" employees. And this goes for female & male authority. I've had all kinds of bosses.

Absolutely. I started at my place in pretty decent position. I was moved because the company head decided that he wanted his friend to work there. His friend had NO experience in my industry and I had to train him. I was moved again because the friend wanted his friend to do my new position. Again, the new guy had no experience and I had to train that person. The position I was given was a position that was created for me. They didn't want me to leave, but they wanted their buddies to have these nice well-paying jobs. I was then moved again because I was not enough of an a$$hole to the the people that I was in charge of, even though I was doing my job. (that was the actual reason). I had to help that person as well. Since I have been moved so many times, scrap has gone up and productivity has gone way down. If you look at the matrix for scrap and the one for production you can see the negative trend starting the month I left my last position.
Since the new company head has been there, he has hired 8 of his own people, 2 of them have been fired, and the company is a wreck.

You're in prison because you've chosen to be.

You're welcome to start your own business. Be your own boss. Be responsible for hunting down and securing every dime of your own paycheck. Pay the light bill, phone bill, rent for the office, insurance, and all the other expenses a business must meet to stay in business before you see a penny of salary, by the way.

Although it is difficult, people do it every day. You might find a new respect for the difficulty of the manager's job along the way...
