Believe it or not....geometry helps you to think logically and understand that there is a relationship between shapes and numbers...It may seem stupid now, but later there will be a time when you'll appreciate it....

When you get out in the real world, do you plan on owning a house? How will you know how much paint you need if you want to redecorate? How much carpet will you need? Will the couch fit through the door if you tilt it sideways? These are a few places the average person will need some basic geometry. If you plan on going into any kind of job involved in construction, you will need much more advanced geometry.
As far as proofs go, they teach you how to argue and win. If your argument does not have any facts to back up your statements, you can't win a logical argument. So proofs are teaching you how to think through a problem. You can use the same thinking ability in other situations, not just mathematics.
I am sorry you hate the class, but I wonder if you started the class thinking you were probably going to hate it. I have a lot of students tell me in the first week of school each year that they hate math. It is really hard to teach them because their minds are already made up and they don't want to learn. Try looking at it as a class in how to think logically (instead of creatively, like in English class). Everyone can use a little logical thinking sometime in their life.

Most people ask questions like this. You need to think positive. You know what football is, right? Well they don't just run out on the field for play offs. They have to practice, a lot, and they have games before that. After each practice, they become a little more prepared for the big game. After each game, you've basically advanced a level. Then, of course, you could choose to go on and play college ball. This would give you a little more experience and a better chance to be on an NFL team. School is practice for life. It's preparing you, and each grade you pass is like each grade until you get to be a senior. Once you're a senior, you go onto college. College would give you more experience and a better chance at having a good job. You see? It's all worth it in the end.

you kids should stop asking questions like that. your school isn't stupid enough to just come up with some subject and make parents pay for them even if they're sh*t useless in this world... no offense kid, but think about it. it might have been invented for some real good purpose, huh? without geometry, you probably wouldn't have a school to go to by now. people were basically able to make cities (in a literal sense) using geometry. you would probably need it in your future career. and besides, even if your future career doesn't have anything to do with it, studying geometry will definitely help sharpen your mind! :) dull minds are such a turn off.

I often asked myself the same question in college when I was writing papers on dead political philosophers that will never directly impact my life.
At the end of it all, however, tackling these tasks and learning how to think critically and efficiently is the most important thing we take away from school. Now I work for a Senator, and, while I never have to write about the abstract writings of 18th century political philosophers, I do have to write about a huge amount of OTHER abstract concepts that I don't think I could have done nearly as well or nearly as fast (In 9th grade it would take me a week to do a 2 page paper, compared with today, when I do at least 10 pages a day) without the "worthless" work I did in my schooling.

That is one of the primers of your life, its very useful even if you deny it. You dont really know its use thats why you hate it, but in real world, it can cause you promotion, high salary, winning decisions, inventions, and everything useful. Even as your name implies 'basketball', you will find it useful or enhance your skills by splicing geometry with physics in order to shoot the ball at the goal. What can be measured can be done.

I hated that class too. Theorems are gay. Just get through it as best you can. Geometry will lead you to more advanced math as you go through school. You will use it at the most unexpected times and as you get older, you won't even realize that you're doing it.

Most classes in school of course you're not gonna use it later. It's there to make your brain work so just do it.

well ya need to specify if it is high school or college because if its college most likely they are trying to get you to take classes such as that, that you will never ever use again in your life just to get more money out of you...i mean to get you a well rounded education...yea thats it.....
