If you truly believe that this person is suicidal, you should report it to a responsible adult. The fact that you use that term at all tells me that you are a young person, and in no way capable of handling this on your own. You owe it to yourself and your friend to enlist the help of those who can really do something...

Straight out asking the person is probably not the best approach. They will be embarrassed and defensive and if they say it out loud they may become compelled to follow through.
Listen and if you become worried, report it and let a pro do their thing to help your friend

all of the above, especially the listen part.

most 'suicidals' try to kill themselves because they feel that no one cares. if you actually sit down and talk/listen, they feel that they have a purpose.

if that fails, seek help immediately. if someone close to them can't stop it, he or she must be seen by therapists.
