it is such an easy task , that mechanic shop just wants to take advantage of you, go to your local autoparts, ask for a set of wires and a set of plugs get motorcraft brand plugs wich is the ford oem , you will need the model ,engine size .and year of your truck have those handy , you will also need a spark plug socket and rachet , also is a good idea to get a small piece of vacum hose about the size of the crome tip on your plugs.and abuot a foot long, ask the autoparts salesman, to gap your plugs for you, most of them come pregaped , that is thespace in between the electrons to create the spark . , now when you change the wires do not disconect them all at once do it one at a time so you will avoid confusion it is also a good idea to replace your distributor cap and rotor since you are doing this wire exchange. also when you remove your plugs do it one at a time dont rush yourself , remove your old plug check it make sure it does not have residues of oil , carbon deposit or burned out electrons . you know these old plugs can tell you the healt of your engine , ok now to replace the plug insert the plug on the vacum hose and reinsert it on the plug hole turning the vacu m hose , why are you going to do this , simple todays vehicles use aluminum heads and damage of the treads is very easy if you try to force the plug with your wrenches , now once you have your plug "started " on the hole turn the vacum hose as far as it let you . then remove it and torque it using your socket and rachet do not overtight . and do the same with the rest of your plugs , easy is'nt
this is what is called a partial tune up . good luck my friend

Depends upon the engine but yes Wires aren't cheap anymore... I know Ford wires for a v-8 are roughly $100... But plugs, wires, and labor for a independant is pretty good and fair using name brand products

Yeah, that's the kind of thing I'm not willing to pay a mechanic for. It's probably $20 - $30 in parts, and with a good socket wrench to remove the spark plugs, it's a 15 minute job.

That's an insane price. $75 should be enough. Just replace one wire and plug at a time so you don't get them mixed up.
