Yes.
However, you are posing this question to the wrong people. Most teachers are liberals (democrats) and they tend to oppose the "right to carry" folk that recognize the fact that handguns, in the right hands, DO put a damper on violent crime.
For those that propose in their response that teachers can "flip out" too, therefore, they should not be allowed .....
Couldn't the same be said for policemen, soldiers, elected representatives, and little old ladies?
Take it from me, a liberal former teacher, school administrator and a concealed weapons permit holder, the toll at VA Tech would have been less had some of those folks been given the "right to carry."

If you're worried that the average teacher is going to shoot Little Johnny for not doing his homework, I'd say your school district has bigger problems than the obvious. A gun is a simple tool, and it does nothing unless the person carrying it puts it to use. Saying it's a step back because of some potential harm would be more appropriate if used on something more dangerous, like a set of car keys. It's really a non-issue, except that on the rare occasion when you need a handgun, you need it very badly, and immediately. I just don't see any real downside to the allowance, though I doubt many teachers will actually carry a gun.

What kind of a question is this? Kids have just been killed in a school by a crazed gunman. Why are Americans obsessed with guns.In my opinion no-one, but no-one, should be allowed to carry a gun except for properly authorised police officers and members of the armed forces. Anyone else carrying one without official permission should be jailed.

I think teachers should be able to carry a concealed hand gun, after they take a state approved hand gun coarse.

Absolutely NOT. I'm a teacher -- schools are NO place for guns. Schools are a place to advance and enlighten your mind -- NOT intimidate or threaten.
What happened at Tech was an unfortunate trajedy to which the answer is not more guns.

Knee jerk over reaction number three I read today. None of them have been well thought out either.
Are you telling us that teachers wouldn't been the ones to go on a rampage? Think of all the teachers who have sex with their students. And THESE are the people we are going to give guns to on campus--I think NOT!
Good Luck....

Ya, no ******* way man. For a few reasons.
1) What if the teacher is shot first? Then your screwed if the assailant get the gun
2) What if the teacher goes crazy? Teachers aren't saints you know, they can pull triggers too. They could easily kill the whole class in an instant.

Or maybe there would...My tenth grade teacher was nuts, I am certain if he had a gun he would have shot half the class just to get them to be quiet and sit down...or at least shot one student as an example to the rest of us.

Absolutely not. One of my junior high school teachers lost his cool to the point that if he'd had a gun, he would have used it. Really bad idea.

More guns is not a solution to violence. Guns only produce violence. Less guns, even more, guns only for police forces is the solution to the violence problem
