Only some cultures promote tanning. In India, for example, the lighter you are the better it is considered. And during the civil war era, woman of breeding carried parasols to protect their skin from the harmful rays of the sun because pale skin was prized! It meant you weren't out in the fields working but were affluent enough to stay in out of the sun and be waited upon hand and foot. So embrace your pale skin. When you are 40, 50, 60 years old, you will not look like a piece of shoe leather! The sun worshipers who have tanned themselves into permanent skin damage, will. Skin is very unforgiving. You may not see the damage initially, but if it is there, it will age you prematurely.

Hi I know what you mean, Im also very pale, and its like unless you look like a orange then you have something wrong with you and you look ill.
I think being pale looks more natural as if someone is going to have a tan everyday of the year.
I think all use pale people should do is look after out skin and make the most out of it. Who cares if where really pale if our skin is glowing with health then were ok.
I say stuff it too all the clones out there. Ive given up on trying to look like I have a tan. It just waste money and your body doesnt need it half the time. A good moisturiser and good body lotion and thats it.
Usually people with pale skin like me, when people say we look ill its because our skin is almost transparent that say if we have slighlty dark eye circles this shows through and looks like we have something wrong. with us when we are perfectly fine. I even wear make up to make me look better and people say im still pale. If you happy and have good skin then I say it doesnt matter if your pale.

Right ON! if only everyone else could be so happy with the way they look, the world would be such a better place. if you like the way you look, then you dont need to go get a tan.
Besides, naturally pale skin is more healthy than sitting out in the sun for a few hours. skin cancer is a big risk! i tan naturally and im paler in the winter. i dont really care so longs as i dont look fake--thats the ugliest!

Oh, nothing is wrong with being pale. It seems most of the world does want to be tan & hey, even wants you to be tan with them. Ya know, a friend will be like, you need a tan, come to the beach with me! Who knows, maybe being pale will be a fad sometime. Haha, maybe not. I wouldn't mind being tan but I'm not going to go after it, it's a waste of money & it's much more unhealthy than "looking healthy" by being tan. I'm a white girl & I believe I'll just be that way. I understand your frustation though! :o)

It isn't unhealthy at all.
Whats unhealthy [physically and psychologically] is when people go and get a fake tan [go to get their skin browned in an oven like a chicken] to make their skin darker to 'appear healthier' when in fact they are doing just the opposite and damaging themselves.
Appearance is everything no matter what anyone says, anyone who says 'oh its whats inside that counts' in a perfect world yes that's true, once you get to know someone, thats true, but in the real world first impressions are based on looks, and people have become to neurotic about that, that they are willing to risk their health to provide the illusion of being healthy, f**king ridulous. Same theory goes for people who are size 0 or 00 or whatever.
Im proud of my pale skin and my northern european heritage and have no need or want or desire to burn my body into an unnatural colour or put on fake tan lotion that will turn me orange, a look i am not willing to embrace.
Be proud of being pale, some people go to extreme lengths to acheive that look aswell [micheal jackson] and some people have gone to even more extreme lengths to preserve their pale skin [ersebet bathory rubbed the blood of virgins into hers to make it clean and pale lol]
Anyways, there is no problem with it, only with other people, if they want to bake and get cancer, let them, meanwhile you are safe in the knowledge that despite how 'unhealthy' they tell you they look, you know how unhealthy they are in the real world.

I am Irish, and I am so pale people joke and call me transparent. I LOVE that I am pale, except that I can't wear white or yellow because I look washed out. Everyone tells me to get a tan, also, and I have been out in the sun (I refuse to go to a tanning salon) and I usually just burn, and peel off just as light as I was. I did tan a bit once, and I HATED it. It all depends on your coloring My hair is strawberry-blonde and I have no freckles, but as long as your hair isn't white-blonde or pitch black, you'll be okay.

I also have pale skin, and am very happy with it.
Although now lots of people prefer to be tanned, in previous times pale skin was considered the ideal!
Far better to be pale than to waste time plastering horrible, unhealthy fake tans over your skin: they never look natural and they're not good for you.
Pale skin is lovely, especially if you have dark hair, or light blonde hair. Be happy with your complexion; think of it as 'ivory' or 'alabaster' as opposed to 'chalky'!!

Be proud of your pale skin. Tanning only became popular in the 20s and 30s. Before that, pale skin was highly favored. It's pure and natural to have pale skin. The guys I know prefer girls with pale skin on girls because they look more feminine and natural according to them. :)

China, india and most of the entire eastern half of the world have a completely different view that the U.S. All of my native asian friends tell me how people in china walk around with umbrellas in the sun to keep their skin light. I guess we all just want what we don't have. I think pale skin can look just as beautiful as tanned.

No way! Like you, I look like a pint of milk when stripped off, but my skin is healthy, it has the odd freckle i.e. shoulders, bridge of nose and on my knees but I am almost 60 years old and I have less wrinkles than people half my age because I don't try and roast my skin like a Sunday joint. Pale is perfect, tan is tangoed just like it says on the tin!
