i'm 17 and ive had heavy vaginal discharge for about 4 years now. it's thick and white, sometimes yellow. i've been to a gynecologist and been tested for infections several times, but everything always comes back negative. is there anything i can do to lessen the amount of discharge i'm having?

You're still young, so your discharge may just be fluctuating with your hormones... you can usually tell, by the regularity of your periods. If you're totally regular, the discharge should slow down, but if your periods aren't coming at the same time every month, or last for times amounts of time, it can just mean that your hormones haven't settled down yet.

You might also want to try wearing white cotton underpants, with looser clothing - no tight jeans. Try wearing cotton undies with loose skirts and see if it makes any difference in your discharge.
Sleeping without undies on will also help things "breathe" a bit more than normal

Glands inside your vagina and cervix make small amounts of fluid. This fluid flows out of the vagina each day, carrying out old cells that have lined the vagina. This is your body's way of keeping your vagina healthy and clean. The discharge is usually clear or milky and doesn't smell bad.

The color and thickness of the discharge change with your monthly cycle. The discharge will be thicker when you ovulate. (when one of your ovaries releases an egg),

Changes that may signal a problem include an increase in the amount of discharge, a change in the color or smell of the discharge, and irritation, itchiness or burning in or around your vagina. This is vaginitis. A discharge that's stained with blood when you're not having your period could also be a sign of a problem. If you have any of these signs, you should talk to your doctor.

Different Types of Discharge :

White: Thick, white discharge is common at the beginning and end of your cycle. Normal white discharge is not accompanied by itching. If itching is present, thick white discharge can indicate a yeast infection.

Clear and stretchy: This is "fertile" mucous and means you are ovulating.

Clear and watery: This occurs at different times of your cycle and can be particularly heavy after exercising.

Yellow or Green: May indicate an infection, especially if thick or clumpy like cottage cheese or has a foul odor.

Brown: May happen right after periods, and is just "cleaning out" your vagina. Old blood looks brown .

I hope some of this helps... and good luck, hun.

Thick, yellowish discharge is normal in the time just before we have our period (which is about two weeks before the actual period and is called ovulation). The discharge can be somewhat thick and yellowish too if someone is taking the pill. If neither of these applies it can happen that sometimes an infection will occur even if the culture has not shown it. I don't know when the last time was that you saw your gynecologist but I would definitely talk to your primary care physician to get their input on this situation as well to see what they think could be going on.

yes its just your hornmones. if you are sexually active or have sex quite often this can make this happen.

if your a virgin this might be why. your sexually aroused or something.

i used to be like that for ages as i was very active. once i found a partner and stuck to the same man for a few months and didnt have sex every min of the day i was ok and it calmed down.

not sure if you are the same but its honestly to do with your hornmones. try weaing some pantyliners and change quite regular or it'll start to smell. as long as it doesnt smell you are fine-

everybody's amount of discharge is different. As long as there is not burning or itching you will be fine. Just wear a pad or panty protector.
