I tell you, I am a proud black female and i love my community. But I am 33 and i have gone to about 8 different beauty shop in my life and every single one of them are the same. All they do is talk about people, you can get great gossip there, but it just is not professional.

Yes and no.

I have straight hair (kind of like Mariah Carey) and I can have it very curly if I wet it and put curl stuff on it (like curling shampoo). I have been to both kinds of salons.

If you go to an upscale black salon or white one, no gossip.

If you go to a mid range or lower black or white salon, gossip.
Did you ever see Steel Magnolias?

Do you live in or near a big city? Go to an upscale salon.
You may not like the prices and if you go to an upscale white salon or other white salon they may not be able to do your hair.

Please remember that these women have nothing else to do.

Are the operators young? I find the younger ones to be less professional.

I hate gossip too, but I find that if I do things to interrupt the conversation it gets their attention.

Also, when I leave a salon for good, i call back and let them know they need to be more professional, if I feel they have gossiped too much or something. But only do this if you intend NEVER to go back. All kinds of women can be very vindictive and you don't want them taking it out on your hair.

Most women and gossip go together. Not me though.
That's why I go to a salon that's as far away from the people I know and enjoy some good conversation. It isn't professional, you're right, but we are taught to make conversation when we are trained in beauty school. Most of these people can't seem to talk about anything else but other peoples lives...not me. I wouldn't want someone else doing it about me.

Yes I believe they do. But you can find ones where the owner does not allow gossip.

Whenever I go to the salon, everyone pretty much mionds their own business. I have rarely seen customers interacting with other customers.

I cant stand that. I mean, sure I gossip with my girls, but not with acquaintances. I hate women like that.
