born on The 4th of July ,but in real life it was the 3rd,tom cruise movie.
i did see a guy ,a vet selling the little Robbins in the mall 1 time ,i saw him crying ,so i had my son go buy 1 of the ribbon he was selling,not to support any wars because i am total agents war of any kind ,but to cheer him up.

on your headline, i would say no, not all heroes have to die to be named as such. most have us have their own hero in our lives, those who is with us in times of trouble and help us in the hardest times of our lives.
