national anthems are meant to be inspiring as a general rule. the subject once studied is a war time tradgedy, mixed with fear and resolve. Not knowing if they would make it through the night. And thier pride as they still stand the next day. (star spangled banner)
Like if you've ever been through an ordeal, dare is say VT, everyone is together and happy afterwards with a sense of community. The song evokes this response if you are in tune with it. Rather disturbing to use that misery as our unifying anthem. and it reflects perhaps in the culture and understanding of history.

never. our national anthem is probably one of the toughest ones out there. actually, I memorized the words to CANADA'S national anthem before ours. Ours is tough - to sing and get all the words to.
Anyways - I'd prefer God Bless America or America the Beautiful, Stars and Stripes Forever or even "I'm proud to be an American" as our national anthem.

Yes I do, always have.. for some reason it just makes me very emotional... so does the star spangled banner..
Patriotism maybe?
My daughter gets embarrassed when we go to things at her school and the audience sings the National Anthem I start sobbing lol..

one time, when i was in the filipino community center here, they played our national anthem and most of us was teary eyed while singing along. i am a filipino but working abroad, and my life here is incomparable to the life i have in my hometown. thats why after my contract here, surely i will go home and find own place under the sun on my own country, not here or anywhere. this is also a realization for me that there is also a patriotic side of me. i miss my country, my life in there, esp my family and friends.

Yes I do, because I have done so much for my country in the military and that song to me is beautiful and means a lot to me.

No, but the people all around me do. (I'm a very bad singer.) Actually, I'd cry if I could NOT sing it.
