Please describe issues that you think we can come together on and how. America needs to have a united front and it's time that we stop fighting amongst ourselves and start looking for real solutions.
Please, keep it mature and no personal attacks.

I would say we should be able to come together on the War on Terror but the Dems want to remove that terminology. I think there are few if any issues that have not become completely partisan in this county.

I would like to think we could agree on issues such as education and welfare reform (as in welfare to work programs not eliminating welfare).

I am afraid; however that some in Washington are much more concerned with their own agenda than doing what is best for our country.

The most obvious thing that we need to look at together is global warming. Now before all of you come out and start shouting about it being a conspiracy, think about the fact that both sides agree on this. Both sides see it as a dangerous problem to which man is contributing (except a few stubborn congressmen and a few outspoken YA members). The disagreement that we run into here is how to implement restrictions on greenhouse gasses. Democrats want to use government to limit, Republicans want to give tax cuts to businesses that comply.

One can see an easy compromise here, give set restrictions that increase over the next ten years, punishing those companies that do not comply, give some taxes back to those companies that comply oh say a year or two before the deadlines, and offer one time rewards to the person, group, or company that come up with the innovative ways to have more efficient vehicles, economically available solar and wind energy sources, etc. (The reward would be in return for there allowing this technology to be used by everyone and not get bogged down in patent laws).

I really don't think it's possible. The two parties are very diametrically opposed, and there are so many people on both sides that are 100% convinced that their view is RIGHT and anyone who disagrees is an idiot. If there were one thing I wish we could get both parties to agree on (and it just might be possible) I wish both parties would agree that ALL the politicians currently on Capitol Hill need to get the boot. America would not suffer from an infusion of new liberals and conservatives into Congress, and I'm sure we would benefit greatly from kicking out all those self-serving sycophants who only really care about more money and more power for themselves. What do you say we make 2012 the year we send them packing?

I have one and I believe it will help heal the divisions.

COngress is run by corrupt careerists who appear to resent us not represent us. We will never get them to discuss term limits, my one partisan snipe, the repubs tried since 1992 and the dems shot them all down. but regardless they are not going to even talk about it.

Therefore I suggest that we vote for the new guy for congress, someone who is yet corrupted by the cesspool of DC. If we do this for four cycles most of the deadwood will be gone and then we should have a congress that represents us. It would require at times you voting for someone outside of your party, but you are a patriot, you can make sacrifices.

After we have representation again we can have the term limit amendment and we the people will be in charge, not the ruling class of today.

Pelosi has already informed some democrats that no legislation will even be considered if it makes the president (Bush) or his party look good in any way. They are completely deidicated to pulling down Bush and his administration, and don't care what harm it may do the nation as a whole, as long as it helps them win back the White House in 2008.

If the politicians themselves cannot come together no one here in yahoo answers can come up with anything that would be acceptable to either side in real politics.

it's not Dems and Reps... it's good and Evil... and the Dems nor the Reps represent either... they are birds of a feather, a single minded entity bent on non progress... those of us that compete within that framework are merely tools of the puppet masters.
We'll all have to think for ourselves here..
wouldn't anyone opt for
equal and fair health care... for everyone?
wouldn't everyone opt for an equal distribution of Food and shelter..
for everyone now.. including those non-productive places on the planet like Zimbabwe and New York :)
wouldn't we all opt for an eduction that would allow for self reliance and an enrichment of the human species?

these "Social" programs are viewed as anti capitalist,... but really they're pro human... so what should we agree to disagree about ?
