Really, I have a friend who has to show the Americans around,
customers of the firm where she works, and every time she and him come to a door, he stop dead on the spot, and waits for her to open it. She is a small, tiny person; they are all big and wide. She once even stopped herself, and waited, out of interest, to see if he opens the door by himself. He never did, and they stood on like this for at least 8 minutes, until she opened it for him.
Aren't there any doors in their country, that they do not know how to open them?

Ah, no, she was showing them around, and the doors were shops' doors and bank doors' where they went to cash their cards, and even bathroom doors... Why it is impolite to open a bank door? Or not to do it for yourself?

Basing you impressions of Americans on one person is like me basing my impressions on your countrymen by the convicts in your jails.

In America, people are generally expected to open the door for the person they're with. It's considered rude to make someone open a door themselves. Americans are especially offended when the host of the place they're visiting doesn't open doors.

Sounds to me like she is showing around some very rude, ill manored jerks with absolutely so proper upbringing!!! Even in the 21st century men should not forget manors. Sense her job is to show them around there probably isn't much she can do about and keep her job. I suggest waiting behind him and maybe then he will open the doors sense they are right in front of him. If not, give him a puzzled look, shake your head, and open the door.

So, she is showing a guest around and wants the guest to just open doors without invitation? I would consider any guest who did that to be rude. On top of that, these are customers. Why should they be expected to open doors or enter rooms without being announced? Sounds like the Americans are trying to be polite and have certain expectations of the firms they employ. Sounds like you are quite rude expecting customers to do you jpob.

As a host it is her job to open the doors except in the south where I am from men here almost always hold the door open for a woman.

Some are for security reasons.

and no, the Doors stopped performing , since Jim Morrison death.

I alredy answer your frigging question, and saw you added some comments:
Response: you are a total jerk. Guests SHOULD NOT open doors, but hostess do. That's why she is getting paid for showing around. Are you that stupid???

I don't know which country you are from, but it seems you guys don't have much etiquette.

If she was the host, then she is suppose to open the door.
But I can say if the American was Southerner's, they would have open the door for a lady.
