Just had a plumber come and replace our ejector pump...charged us $700. From what people tell me, that's about what it costs. does anyone know?

that's a reasonable price. Maybe a little high on labor. It shouldn't have taken more than an hour to do the whole thing and any changes should have been minimal. If you got a detailed bill, what was the breakdown for labor and materials?

I like the pvc idea. I would try filling pipe with water then blow air to see if you have blockage. I would also check new pump specs. 72 ft of suction head even if primed is hard for any pump to pick up without a feed or booster pump.

Material and labor both contribute to the total cost. If the plumber had to do a lot of changes in the piping, that may be the reason. Your bill should be divided between the cost factors. You should be able to tell if new piping has been added.

There's a lot to answer like how big of pipe, how big of motor, how high does it need to push it, how fast.... a direct swapout could cost that much if you have arround a 2 horsepower motor. Below that, you might look for another bidder
