I would take this seriously! The cutting is a sign that they are trying to feel alive and cutting themselves allows them to see and feel the pain on the outside. My nephew is going through this right now. He was hospitalized for a week because he was trying to kill himself slowly with drugs and alcohol. Please don't ignore this behavior, talk to your friend and if you know their parents well, you may want to mention to them that you are worried about your friend. Better than to just let it go and then something really bad happen. Good luck and I hope your friend gets the right help and will feel better soon.

This is a very serious case! I had a friend who did the same thing occasionally. She was adopted and later admitted it was an outlet to the pain she felt inside. Almost like a physical pain was better than dealing with an emotional problem that could not be expressed or released. Approach this very carefully. Most will not get help for the fear that they have to face their problems. All you can do is maybe tell your friend that you are concerned about them and want to help. Ask him/her what is really bothering them. Explain that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary situation. Good luck.

Yes, he needs some serious counseling to make him realize that he is worth something!
