I have 8 weeks left and I am getting so nervous! I was wondering if anyone could tell me what their experiance was. I plan on having an epidural. I do not tollerate pain at all. I am terrified though. If you have an epidural what do you feel? No pain? a little bit of pain? What? What happened for you from the moment you went into labor until the end of it all. I am just looking for some stories of others, trying to get a perspective on what I am going to be going through! Thanks!

i just had a son 7 weeks ago so its still fresh in my mind ha ha.epidural great choice why feel pain if you don't have to.i got my epidural when i was dilated to 5 and i never felt nothing past that part it was great!!!!i did get the shakes for about an hour after i had the epidural but the said that was normal.get the epidural as soon as they will let you after you get that its a breeze i did not feel any contractions or even pushing my son out. the epidural does make your legs numb so that kinda sucks because you have ot have help raising them and you cant get up for about 2 hours after you have the baby. but its well worth it and it does not hurt when they put the epidural in. all the pain you do experience is well worth after you hold your baby for the 1st time. most hospitals will let you get the epidural when you are dilated to 4. good luck and don't worry yourself to death it will be okay

Don't let other people scare you with their horror stories of how bad it is. It is different for everyone. I was nervous about it the first time and I found that it was no where near as bad as I had been led to believe. My first child was induced and I was in labor with her for about 8 hours. It didn't really hurt that bad until after the doctor broke my water, but she was born about an hour after that so the pain didn't last that long. I didn't have an edpidural, but I did have Stadol which is a muscle relaxant. One of the nurses told me that it didn't count because it isn't a pain reliever, but it really helped me a lot. I was very afraid of having an epidural, more than I was of having the baby. I did have to have an episiotomy but the doctor gave me a shot before he made the cut. Frankly at that time I just didn't really notice it.

With my second child it was a much faster delivery. My water broke and I went to the hospital and 1 hour and 45 minutes later he was born. There was no time for an epidural (which I was still afraid to have and I knew I didn't really need) or an episiotomy or Stadol. I tore a little with the second one and at the time I didn't notice it but I think I healed faster when I had the episiotomy than without. So if your doctor wants to do one I would reccommend it.

I think you recover faster without drugs, but I don't think there is anything wrong with having an epidural. I think your attitude is the most important thing. It will hurt some, but you can do it, it won't really be that bad and when your done you will have thhis wonderful baby. Best of luck to you.

So far with my 2 kids i have been fortunate. My labours are short . My due date was july 18th and she came on the 18th. 1st i noticed this mucus like substance on my liner and when i wiped there was more and some had a bit of blood. then the contractions started so i wrote down the time and when it was like ten minutes apart i called my sister who lived like 30 mins aways to come because my contractions were closer. I went in but was not dilated enough but was still having contractions. I had refused painkillers/epidural but the nurse explained that i would be too tired to deliver, she told me that there was an injection that would let me sleep and i was out in a flash. I slept for about an hour and when i woke up i could feel the contractions instantly and felt the urge to pee. She checked me and called the doctor and i was ready to deliver. Hope this help. My 2 kids are July and my youngest will be 9mths tomorrow.

This is for all you Nervous Nellies....Now is not the time to get nervous, you got enough other things to be concerned with. I don't know what to tell you about an epidural, cause I didn't have one. My daughter was born after about 6 hours of labor. My son was born after 35 minutes of labor. Yes it is not a mistake I said 35 minutes. My doctor didn't even make it to the delivery room!!! That was ok though, my son was healthy then and is now 21 years later.

Each labor is different. I thought I didn't tolerate pain well but I ended up being surprised at how much I could tolerate. I had an IV with medication for my first 2 and nothing with the 3rd. Pain is only what you make of it. If you learn to relax and let your body work, the pain in quite tolerable. Also, labor pain is not constant, you only have pain during contractions and that is when you need to relax. There may also be pain during the actual delivery but that is when you realize that "this is it, it is almost over." Our bodies are so amazing. You will quickly realize that everything you went through is worth it when that little one is in your arms. You don't fully forget the pain, but the memory of it dulls with time.

I SO know how you feel. I was induced because of my blood pressure and I was SO scared!!

I got induced around 11pm...They monitored me and then let me go to sleep...the contractions were not bad at all, matter of fact I slept right through them!!

At 6am they got me back up to monitor me some more...still contractions were nothing big!

At 9am they broke my water and I wanted to try to deal with the pain a little well that worked for about 1 hr then I needed the epidural!! The pain is just like cramps!! They just feel like period cramps in the front and in the back!!

The epidural...I didn't feel it at all!! I guess they numb it then stick the needle in but in all honestly I DIDN'T FEEL anything!!

Then at noon I started pushing..I watched it on my end through a mirror (that was awesome). Then at 1:04pm he was born.

I was so scared, but the whole thing is just really beautiful!!

Sorry to go into detail but i thought it would help you!!!

GOOD LUCK!!

ive got 5 weeks to go and feel exactly the same. Trying to focus and be positive, but it is hard, i know. Practice your breathing and go with the pain, not against it, that sthe best advice Ive been given. Good luck
