FYI, it's a wide collar, about 2 1/2 inches high. Any ideas would help.

This is part of a relationship I have. No, there is not leash with it. It's a gift and a sign of ownership.

Ah, consensual slavery, I actually find this kinda interesting myself = P My friends and my girlfriend and I were talking about this a month ago. Mostly, I think people would just think you're gothic. No harm there, who cares what other people think. Have fun, enjoy your kink, we all have them = )

I know of some who have worn dog collars in public. I've seen a woman with a man on a leash, but a common joke that caused people to laugh from what I'd heard at various clumps of people I saw the couple pass--someone always commented after they passed, "A man on a leash is sad, but there would be a riot if a woman was in a man's tow!" They are right. You can wear your collar in many places without much fuss, but if you are a woman and a man has you on his leash--he better watch out.

Sounds like youre in a Dom/sub relationship and I assume that only because you said
"One was given to me and I NEED to wear it."
Most Doms choose a collar that is a little more mainstream for public wear but if yours says you must wear this one all the time then theres nothing to be done but wear it and dont worry about what anyone else says or thinks.

I have a gay guy friend who has worn a dog collar around his neck every day for as long as I can remember to show his bondage fetish. As a matter of fact, it was the thing that started my first conversation with him and lead to a life long friendship. I don't see anything wrong with it, but of course I wouldn't wear it to work or any place professional like that.

why do you need to ask us?
You're the one who will wear them anyway.
Fashion must compliment your personality, not the other way around.
If you feel comfortable wearing it then fine, but if you're not then the other party should accept who you are and the part of you that felt uncomfortable with that collar.

For me collars/chokers are really kewl!

yes why not ? we are pre-conditioned at birth to adjust to male or female roles etc also sexuality and to live as the "norm", Living is always about being an individual and we should wear what we please and not what society suggests

Why do you need to wear it????? Tell whoever it it to go F**k themselves and have nothing to do with them if they keep insisting. If it it part of you job, decide if it is worth it. As long as it isn't do tight as to affect your breathing go ahead.

I think it would be fine, it reflects who you are on the inside, and that's what counts.
