To buy guns because people commit crimes with them and kill people.
Then should we take away Automobiles, Airplanes, Rope, Knives, Bats, Pillow cases, Phone cords, Cell phones, Flashlights, Oh I could go on and on.. These are all things that people have used to commit murder with. All these objects can be lethal, and take human lives all the time. But I don't see anyone willing to boycott A car, which has killed more people than guns.. Or Airplanes, take 9/11 for example 3000 people died in result of box knives and 4 airplanes, No guns were involved in that Massacre!!!
Or Kool Aid maybe? One of the biggest massacres in U.S. history involved Kool Aid poisned, should we watch out for that? Or Jonestown in Africa, they were all poisoned too.
Another thought, what about Cross bows, bows and Arrows? they can be pretty deadly.. are those o.k. or not with you Anti-gun people?

Steve C: You say that now, but when one of those P*ssies has a gun to your wife, daughter or sons head you'll wish you were a little more of a P*ssy yourself.

Well GOOD katie, that's not what a gun is for.. But reality is those things have killed people too. Some of them more than guns.. Would you let your son drink a glass of Kool Aid at school? It could be poisoned.

No, I honestly believe that making guns illegal would in fact INCREASE crime because then, the only people who would have guns would be criminals and the common person would then be absolutely defenseless.

The difference between the items you mention and guns is purpose: what was the designed PURPOSE of the item? The purpose of a gun is to inflict great bodily harm; the purpose of a car is to transport people from place to place. Do accidents happen? Yes, and automobile accidents have resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths. The difference is that when somebody dies as the result of a gunshot, the gun was used for the purpose for which it was designed.
Guns can kill so many SO QUICKLY...and all they are doing is functioning as they were DESIGNED to function.
I see your point, though...so, extending your analogy, will you at least admit that guns should be licensed, just as automobiles (and drivers) are? Doeesn't doing so simply make common sense? Shouldn't we do more to make sure that:
1. Guns are not so easily obtainable, and
2. People who purchase guns are trained in their proper use?
I won't argue for banning guns if you will support taking these small steps to safeguard communities. Can't we compromise on this?

You're absolutely right.
Some of the logic here is strange. The purpose of a car is to transport people, but it is used illegally everyday. The main purpose for weapons has been for hunting and self defense, but they are used illegally all the time. The best thing all of us can do is identify these kooks before they go off, maybe do some intervention. We can't walk around ignoring these people.

On September 11 2001, 19 men killed more then 3000 people with box cutters. In Iraq today 4 bombs killed 127 people. No guns were used in either of those cases.

if you can't tell the difference between a flashlight and a rifle...
then you're never going to get it... so, why should I bother trying to explain it to you? but here goes...
one of those things is more likely to be used in a murder... by far... that's why
I mean... by your idea... why can't we have nuclear weapons in personal possession?
why don't you list the total numbers of deaths for each item you list... well, since you mention it... since jonestown... you can even put kool aid on the list!

Well, if there was another purpose to guns besides maiming, killing or otherwise destroying perfectly good matter in it's path, you might have a point. Bats-- they eat insects, just kidding. My son plays baseball with that...I would not allow him to play base ball with a gun, nor would I allow him to call his gramma with a gun. Or look for a dropped dollar in the dark with a gun. or fly to visit family on a gun. or drive to the beach in a gun.or sleep on a gun.....
***Maybe they were used for that purpose, but that is not their reason for existing. That IS a gun's reason for existing. and no my son is not allowed to drink Kool-Aid, period. There is no nutritional value.

well majority of the people going out to buy a pillow case doesn't intend on murdering someone with it, a gun is a different story.. i understand your point but i think there should be some regulations on buying weapons like guns ect.

What are you like 12 years old? Because I don't see how what you have said can be taken as a valid argument for an armed citizenry. I wonder if your thinking would be different if it was your parent/friend/brother/sister that was killed in VA? Probably not because based on your writings you likely live in Fantasy Land.

Actually it was Flavor-Aid that was used in Jonestown, which by the way was in Guyana, not the USA.
Learn some history so you do not seem so ignorant.
Edit for Honeybee.
1. Guyana is in South America.
2. The poison was mixed with Flavor-Aid, not Kool Aid, stop watching O'Riely, he is a fool.
I grew up in the Bay Area, that was my Congress Man killed there, I know the facts.
Now I guess you need to work on your Geography.
