I have 2 postcards, one of the Uffington White Horse and one of Oxford University buildings. I can find no biographical reference to Major Allen except that he may have died before 1940. There are references on-line to his archaeological work and contributions to the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford but nothing further.

What you have is about all there is. You might try looking for more information through the publisher of that post card or else from a local historical society in GB

The website of the Institute of Historical Research lists a talk about Major Allen given by Richard Morris from the University of Leeds, and includes some information about him in the description of the talk, including "Between the wars George Allen was governing director of an agricultural engineering business on the edge of Oxford". The Museum of English Rural Life, which has many archive records from agricultural engineering firms, includes some from a firm called John Allen & Sons based in Cowley, Oxford: I'm guessing this may be the same firm.

The website of the Iffley History Society also includes a mention of a talk given on Major Allen by Dr Arthur MacGregor of the Ashmolean in November 2005. Apparently Major Allen was from Iffley, near Oxford.

Hopefully this should give you some avenues for further research!
