I have had to pick up narcotics for my wife at times and syringes from a drug store all the time. I never even have to show an ID and I have done this since day one (meaning before they knew who I was). FYI you must show ID in CA to pick up both.
However each gun I have purchased I have had to show my active duty military ID or take an exam (after I got out). Peace Officers and P.C. 832 card holders also do not have to take the exam. So at the minimum you are taking an exam. After the exam I have to fill out 3 pieces of paper and sign on each as well as date it. Bring in either my vehicle registration or a current electricity bill in my name to show my residence in Ca. Then I have to wait 15 days before I can come back and pick up my weapon. I must pay for the exam ($25) and I must pay for the background check ($25). Almost forgot...don't forget the right thumb print needed.
PLEASE tell me again how it is easier to get a weapon then drugs at a drug store.
I am glad that when my wife was having pregnancy complications I didn't have to wait 15 days to get her life saving medicine. I am also glad that since she is Type I diabetic I dont have to worry about always going in and waiting 15 days before I can get her insulin or hypodermic needles.

I don't think it's more difficult to purchase drugs at a drug store. I buy aspirin all the time after reading some of the questions on Yahoo.
Purchasing prescriptions is just as easy.
Purchasing a weapon requires a minimum three day waiting period on top of a mandatory background check and approval prior to the sale.
On the other hand...I suppose I've waited a longer period of time for the Drug Store to come back from the lunch break......
Best wishes.

The guy wasn't even a citizen and he was allowed to buy a gun (BTW, there was no waiting period, just an instantaneous "background check", I saw an interview with the gun dealer). How patently absurd.
If 19 Al Qaeda operatives got into the country again like prior to 9/11, they wouldn't even have to develop some elaborate plot, just go to good old virginia and buy assault weapons.

Whose "making assumptions" when asking the question in this manner? Why are YOU assuming that all Republicans are pro-gun? I think you made a good point about the buying guns but there wasn't a need to insult or assume that Republicans think everyone should have easy access to guns!

Try buying a legal gun in New York State.
For a hand gun, 6 sets of finger prints, 3 photos, mental health check, FBI Criminal Check and 4 Character References. Total cost close to $300 non refundable.
Then it takes up to 6 months for approval.
But this only affects the law abiding citizens.

It's much more difficult to get a gun. I don't know where you live but I've never had a 10 day waiting period or background check for any of my prescription medications. I have never had to wait 30 days from the purchase of my meds to purchase my other meds. to wait 10 days more to get them.
Is this what you were questioning?

it isn't. in our city (if you buy it legitimately) you have to show 2 forms of ID, they check your criminal background, and they are required to ask why you are buying it, and then you're gun is registered so police will no if a crime was committed with it. I am a republican and this is not an assumptions , theses are facts. im all for stricter gun control, which is different than total gun banning.

Here we go again. So now you blame the gun salesperson rather than the wacko that did the crime. Cho made a clear premeditated choice. A choice to kill.
Newsflash: it is just s easy to get drugs as it is a handgun.

How do you figure? There are tons of over the counter drugs. Controlled substances are easy to get with a perscription.
Buying a gun isn't difficult but neither are drugs.

As a republican my answer:
The second amendment specifically states that the people in this union will be able to carry arms.
There is not an amendment protecting pharmaceutical ownership.
