I'm heading off to Japan in a few weeks, I already know the exchange rates. I heard Japan is expensive and was wondering what can one US dollar buy over there.

Japanese have borrowed our idea for the doller store. 100yen store, so, their are many things you can buy for about a doller. A cheese burger from mcdonalds or one small tray of sushi from a sushi bar. You could get away with a cheap pair of chopsticks.

I'm off to Japan tomorrow night! But I'm from Australia... so perhaps I can tell you what an aussie dollar can buy you when i get there, heheh...

Gum. A small drink at a convenience store.
There are places called "hyaku en" shops, which (in case you don't understand Japanese) means "100 yen shop". You can buy lots of uninteresting stuff there, from soap to paper towels to drinks to candy and snacks.

Today's rate is around JPY 118 = US$ 1.
Canned coffee and drinks in vending machine are JPY120.

you could probably buy like a drink from the vending machines or you can probably by something from the one hundre yen store. THey have some nice stuff there.
