What you do is this, go to the washroom, call up a friend and say you're bailing. Tell him or her to call back in 20 minutes, then go back to your desk. Go about your day for the next 20 minutes. When the phone rings, answer it casually, after a few seconds look terrified, drop the phone, pick it up (if you can, start crying or something) say loudly that you'll be right there and take off. Don't say a word to anyone as you rush out the door crying (again, if you can).
Later on in the day, your boss will ask where you are and everyone in the room who saw and heard your little display will say something terrible has happened and you had to rush out without saying why.
I did this once. My boss called me up at home and told me I can take two weeks paid emergency stress leave if I want to.
It works, trust me. Have a nice afternoon off.

why do you need an excuse? Are you in a dictatorship or something? Just be like - I need to leave early. No one need know why you are doing so and if they do ask why - tell 'em it's personal business.

Tell them your grandmother just had a heart attack, and you need to get to the hospital ASAP cause the doctors don't think she's gonna make it. Then come back to work the next day praising the lord, "Its a miracle!!"

Have an emergency, gotta take my kid to the hospital. Or you could just say you have an emergency, it's really none of their business.
