Sounds like a great idea to me, but the only problem is our government wouldn't have much money left. The only other place our government can get money is by charging duties on imports. If we voted away taxes, the services we would get from the government would be cut sharply. Interstate highways wouldn't get repaired, millions of deserving students wouldn't be able to get financial aid for college, our military wouldn't be able to adequately defend us against our enemies, the list goes on and on. There is a proposal to get rid of income tax and replace it with a Federal sales tax that shows promise, but we'll see...

Good question my friend. I strongly believe that the United States lost democracy a long time ago after the founding fathers died. Today I firmly believe we are a republic full of bureaucrats where everything is based on laws and written down on paper where progress to people does not exist. To answer your question governments need people's tax money to pay for agenda like state defense and homeland security.

The reason we cant vote away with taxes is are representatives live and profit off are tax money.

If we could vote away taxes my friend, you could have money saved over for things that matter in this world like ending poverty, starvation, and making a way to peace. In other words compassion.

Your question simplified is "Can we vote away government?" And the answer is yes but most people are incapable of seeing that far outside the box they live in. Consider the government and what your taxes pay for. Are they serving you? If not, then you have become a slave to the government. You work to fund something who's purpose is to take from you without giving back in fair measure. Next, ask yourself what services are indispensable and what they are worth. Part of that question is whether those services could be provided without the government. Since the government is inefficient, other methods of providing those services are worth considering.

Anything that is essential and can be provided more effectively by private sources should be removed from government's function. Then look again at the government and consider again if it is providing any essential services. You'll sooner or later determine that on the whole government is a burden and evil we could well do without, along with the associated taxation.

The US is not a Direct Democracy - ie we don't generally vote on federal issues directly. Instead, we vote for, *supposedly* well-informed representatives to vote for us. So in our system, the indirect way for us to 'vote away taxes' is to vote for potential representatives who also believe in lowering taxation.

Oh yes, and by the way, we are a democracy AND a republic. The two aren't mutually exclusive. In our country's founding, democracy only referred to direct democracy (which aren't, and never were), but the definition of democracy has broadened.

Because this is a democracy, you have the right to vote for what ever you choose. But without taxes who would pay for what our taxes pay for now? The government?....then I believe we would no longer be a democracy.

People vote to lower taxes but citizens know that without taxes our country and our democracy could no longer exist.

We are not a Democracy dumb a**.
We never were.
Try Republic..

Mr. Franklin is credited with saying: "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well- armed lamb contesting the vote."

You do not want to pay taxes? One hundred years ago you would not have had to pay. Then taxes were paid by companies and trade tariffs. We need taxes to pay for the army, roads, etc. but you should not have to pay for that. Since then big business has shifted the burden of taxes to you. So blame your Republicans for shifting the taxes from business and put them on your back.

people who think we dont need taxes are idiots. id like you to see what your world would be like without taxes being a part of life and then maybe youll appreciate all of the things they pay for that you probably ignore and complain about
