This is a question that comes up often in public discussion, especially after a school shooting or other event (such as the unspeakable tragedy at Virginia Tech) where it is revealed that the perpetrator frequently played violent video games.
This is another instance of people trying to shift responsibility from the individual to his environment. If someone is naturally violent, they will be attracted to violent video games, and also be more likely to commit violence against other people.
However, millions of people around the world play violent video games and never act out anything in the games against other people.
In fact, there are statistics showing that violent crime among the primary violent video game playing age group has decreased significantly since the advent of video games. Of course, this cannot be linked directly, but it makes more sense to me that for normal people (those without highly violent or sociopathic tendencies), playing a violent video game is a good way of blowing off some steam, therefore releasing aggression and making that person -less- likely to act violently towards other people.

From my research on the subject what I have found is:
It will not generally make children more violent, but it will also not help.
EXCEPT: If a person is predispositioned (I think that's the word) to violence then it will have a negative effect and make them more violent.
So it mostly depends on their personality if they already show signs of aggression I would not suggest playing violent video games. I would not allow children to play. I would really only suggest to people who show no signs of aggression.
I have played violent video games for a long time and would be considered the opposite of an aggressive person, and most other people are just fine, there are some people though that can have major negative effects.

I did a report on this. My conclusion: No.
In fact teen violence has ben on a DECLINE sience 30 years ago according to the FBI. It's just people no willing to take the blame that accuse video games cause violence. 90% of tennage boys and 60% of teenage girls play video games on a regular basis. Plus not all games are violent. Nintendogs anyone?
Isn't the pont of a VG to do something you can't in real life?

In some incidence yes. And psychologist believe that, they believe that over a set period of violent and blood gore games the person begins to think of this as a norm. And if problems arised that provoked them to a certain extent to be pushed over their limit then they can crack and bring some of the violence of the game to life.
While others have strong morals and mind so they dont let the games affect them in anyway.

No. I have played many violent games and I don't have the urge to do it in real life. It's how people are raised that affects their habits or desires.
