Cough meds don't work, do the following:

Put humidifier in the room, get a humidity thermometer and make sure the humidity is between 50-80%

Elevate head of bed by putting pillow UNDER mattress to help mucus drain down out of her head area

Give plenty of fluids, add a little extra water to formula bottles

Use a nasal saline mist/drops (only once a day, more than that and it can have opposite affects)

Do all of these and it will work, believe me, I can't stress it enough. This is how I got my 5 month old through sickness and still do with my 3 yr old. even gotten rid of ear infections.

Allegra - for an infant?

Also some of those like tylenol cold for infants have changed their formula to less effective meds than psuedophedrine - the one they have to put behind the counter from meth makers.

And are you thinking Albuterol (sp?) - the asthma inhaler? Plus Im confused who's taking these, you or her?

Sounds like you need a doc thought anyway, since its been going so long. And as listed above, concerned about the medicines you listed and their safety with infants.

MY 8.5 MONTH OLD SON HAS DOEN THE SAME THING SINCE BIRT. HE WOULD HAVE ENDLESS CYCLES OF RUNNY/STUFFY NOSE, CONGESTION, AND COUGH. IT WOULD GET BETTER TEMPORARILY WITH MEDS, BUT IT WOULD ALWAYS COME BACK. COME TO FIND OUT HE HAS NASAL ALLERGIES. A COLD THAT WON'T GO AWAY OR KEEPS COMING BACK IS USUALLY NOT A COLD AT ALL, BUT ALLERGIES. HE WAS TAKING ZYRTEC-AN ALLERGY MED FOR INFANTS BUT IT WAS TERRIBLE SO WE SWITCHED TO OTC CHILDREN'S CLARITIN. IT HAS HELPED.

How old is the baby? Do you smoke in the house? Is the baby feverish? There are too many unanswered questions here to help you. I think you should call the doctor. Sometimes babies have those symptoms when they are cutting teeth.

Take him to the doctor. That should have been your first option to begin with. Your doctor should advise you on giving medication to infants!
