What is wrong with my transmission?
I have a 1992 Ford Escort and we cannot figure out what the problem is. When the car is cold it wants to shift gears, but when it warms up there is nothing. Changing the tranny fluid and filter helped for about a minute. Nothing smells burnt and the fluid looks fine. The transmission guy that I have asked says it is the shift selenoids, but I do not know if that could be the only problem with it. Any ideas?

It does sound terminal, but try purchasing a product called Lucas Transmission Fix. It is very thick substance that is poured directly into transmission tube, and does cure many transmission problems, but doesn't work miracles. Good Luck.

I've fixed a few with transmission restorer additives. They can clean out the varnish that makes the solenoids stick. It only costs a few bucks to try. Otherwise, it's new transmission time. On a 92 Escort...I'd say it's time to put it out to pasture if the cheap fix doesn't work.
