Everyone has the same number of melanocytes, but their location and distribution in people can vary. These cells produce more pigment in darker people. We all have the same genetic Code, We through environmental selection, have different dominant genes. As to variations of skin color, People with darker skins were better adapted to intense sunlight and people with lighter skin color were better suited for areas of less sun. Darker skin color can absorb enough vitamin c, due to the intense sunlight, and in areas of lesser light lighter skin is need to absorb vitamin C efficiently.
