If you mean being memorable for being good, then i would have to hands down say John Lennon singing Beautiful Boy.
I have seen GnR live in concert, it was the worst concert i have ever heard in my life. Axl couldn't even remember the words to sweet child of mine at the concert. It was the 92 concert with Metallica, Faith No More, and GNR. (detroit concert btw). Not long before that, GNR screwed up every song at the Toledo Speedway.
While i had never got to see Lennon live in concert, i assume that he never was so drugged up, that he couldn't remember that he was supposed to be lead singer to a rock band. So the answer is that while i'll never forget how bad GnR is live, that Lennon is still the winner hands down.
*p.s.* i was a huge GnR fan before seeing them live.

Definately Sweet Child O' Mine - the song was written from the heart by Axl to his then girlfriend Erin. He loved her so much and wrote that beautiful song for her. The lyrics are just awesome and so is the music.

midsummer's answer was right, sweet child of mine was actually about his then girlfriend. i, myself didn't know this until i researched the song because i was going to ask a very similar question, eerie.
but as for which is better known? as much as i'm a lennon fan, sweet child is more renown..

Sweet Child O' Mine was written by Axl for his then-wife Erin.
It's a much better song than Lennon's. I think Beautiful Boy is gay.

Definitely Sweet Child O Mine. It has one of the most instantly recognised intros.

For me it would have to be Sweet Child of Mine. I'm not overly familiar with Beautiful Boy and so not so memorable for me.

Beautiful Boy of course. Axle Rose was probably referring to his girlfriend.

In his traquil state I loved 'Imagine' and 'Woman' . In his angry days you can't beat 'Working Class Hero'. For me, Lennon could have written a shopping list and it would have been great.
