I apply it very evenly, but I still have splotches and uncolored patches. What can I do?

First, it's really important to exfoliate! If you don't want to spend the money, add some course-grain sugar to your body wash. Then, while you're still kind of damp from the shower, use a heavy moisturizer. Your damp skin will absorb the lotion better than perfectly dry skin. Be sure to use lots on your elbows and knees. THEN you use your sunless tanner, which should be a quality brand, making sure to massage it in very well. I do it all the time and it looks really natural! I get lots of compliments, you will too!

Self tanners can be tricky...Here are the steps to the longest lasting most even coverage...
First make sure that you exfoliate...I love Sparkle Skin exfoliating Cream by Clinique in a jar...this will prevent 'grab' of color in certain areas and will reduce streaking
then moisturize heavily in areas that tend to have drier skin such as knees, elbows, feet, ankles, wrists, hands and cuticles
Lastly apply the tanner from feet to head so that you don't get bend lines and do a circular motion as well as up and down
Unfortunately you probably will have to reapply every three days, but if you get the Clinique mousse self tanner it dries faster and has a great color

Before you begin with self tanner, you need to thoroughly exfoliate your skin. Buy a body scrub and pay special attention to your elbows knees and ankles. Best to scrub down and start from scratch.

Use Clarins. The drugstore brands come out patchy and uneven-
