What if the world was made up only of fermions, or only of bosons? I remember reading about this in a book a long time ago, but I don't remember much... :)

All elementary particles in the Universe are either fermions or bosons. I won't go into details as I assume that only those people can answer the question who are already familiar with them.

Eliminate the fermions, and you eleminate all of the real matter that we know about. The best descriptor of that universe would be 'empty'.

If science comes up with a new unifying theory dramatically different from the Standard Model, it's entirely possible that the concept of bosons would disappear. It remains to be seen whether string theory will do this.
