ok so i know alot of people have been talking about this situation, but i just wanna say something...
i think this cho sueng hui person was really disturbed, i mean from all the stories ive read on yahoo news about him... i dont think it seemed that "unpredictable", he wrote stories which were clearly disturbed, and people reacted to that (such as his poetry teacher) by kicking him out of her class. do u think that if anyone tried to help him, they could have stopped this? i mean, i know people tried to talk to him, but no one really tried to help him, my best friend's older sister was there when the shooting happened, and she was traumatized, but what she told me is that she saw him alot, and despite all of the effed up things he did, she wasnt scared of him, and she wanted to speak to him, but she just thought he wouldnt answer her back, honestly, i really do hope that all the victims do rest in peace, and i am 100% against terrorism, but dont u think that this boy was just ill?

He was institutionalized, I don't know for how long. Yes, he needed help. If people could reach out to each other more, if they could communicate honestly and openly, maybe we could avert these tragedies.

I think people did try-his roommates reported a suicide threat and he was taken in for observation. He has a clinical file with the local community services board. People did try to reach out to him. But, at least in VA, you can't put every person who says they might do something in a mental facility and you can't jail people for being creepy. He was sick-he chose not to take the help offered, his family didn't try to step in and get him help. The university and police did what they could within the law. Yes this guy was ill and had mental health issues, maybe that is why he did this but it is by no means an excuse for what the did. He still knew right and wrong and his family should have gotten him some help.

I think the one word that describes him is 'frustrated'. He wasn't able to open up to other people and ignored comments directed at him. At the most he would nod or give one-word comments in answer.
On the other hand, everyone talks about him being such a loner with no friends....but....he did have some sort of relationship with Emily Jane Hilscher (the first victim)...at least enough to have an argument with her before he killed her. (Emily was dating Karl David Thornhill at the time of her death.) So he did talk to SOME people and the result.....a death penalty for not living up to his expectations, not only for her but for so many other equally innocent people.

This is not terrorism. This individual had no ideaology that he was fighting for. The person was just...ill. As for judging him by his writing, I don't think that's fair. He's in a CREATIVE writing program. If he wrote that kind of stuff in a diary or something, that's different. Here, he was writing fictional poems and stories for a class. I'd be pretty mad if someone suggested counselling after reading something I wrote for school, especially if it was meant to be creative. So let's give this whole writing issue a rest...

I think you're right that someone should have taken action when things got so disturbing that teachers even feared him and felt uncomfortable. But some people are beyond help it sounds like he has been this way for a very very long time and his htinking makes no sense to normal people.
I am not a bible thumper, don't go to church much, but I do believe in good and evil and he may have just had an evil soul.

i agree , this guy was sick and people were noticing it but never did anything. He had charges against him for harrassing females in 2005 i mean didn't that ring a bell. then he started writing these bizarre stories , they should of stopped it when the students and teachers first complained about it but they totally neglected the situation. Because it wasn't that important , but look what happened now , ISN"T THIS IMPORTANT! 32 lives spared all because the authorities didn't do their job. The cops are so busy Racial profiling , and being against people that don't do anything rather than these sick F****ks that people constantly complain about, something must be done!!

Cho Seung-Hui was ill.
But ask yourself this:
What is the difference between Cho Seung-Hui the ill person and Cho Seung-Hui the mass murderer?
Answer?
Roanoke Firearms Gun Store.
Anyone who thumb-downs this is admitting that avoidable death of kids is the price they're willing to pay just for the right to own a stoopid gun.
No I wouldn't ban cars - cars are meant for transportation.
Guns are not. Guns are made for the sole purpose of killing or maiming.

Yeah he may have been ill but he still knew what right and wrong was!! He wasn't totally out of it, if that was the case he would have stopped going to school and wouldn't have cared anymore. He definitely knew what he was doing, especially since he wrote a note that the police have now found. He had mental issues that's for sure but yet he still was able to choose to murder 30+ people or not!! If he wanted help he had the chance offered to him, you can't help someone who isnt willing to take your help.

Yes I feel the same way you do. I wish someone would have just helped him out or just listened to what he had to say even if it was disturbing - but no one is like that anymore nowadays. I think he was very ill and needed someone.

I have a question. Would you have been this sympathetic if this man had been a Black man and had done these shootings? Every time a Black man has any type of mental disability, white people want to string him up! But let it be any other race, that's when the bleeding hearts start to sob. I don't care if his @ss was green and from Mars........those young kids did not deserve to have their lives snuffed out like that because this man from South Korea couldn't get his mind on track! Well people I guess we not only have to worry about the Blacks, Hispanics, Iranians, people from Iraq killing innocent White people but now you have to worry about the Asians too!

just because someone is mentally disturbed and writes disgusting things doesnt mean they are going to kill 33 people. There are probably soooooo many sociopathic nuts who write and act like the egghead did, and they wont do anything. Again - I could be wrong.
