Technically you can refuse any test. It is NOT in your or your baby's best interest to do so. I have gestational diabetes. While it isn't fun it is something you need to be aware of so you can control it. You want what is best for you and your baby right? Uncontrolled gestational diabetes can mean DEATH for your baby. Keep that in mind and then be a woman and a good mom and take the test.
OH.. and my mom is diabetic and my dad is insulin dependent so I understand.

Yes the glucose test is required. If you don't get the test it can cause high risks and you could have a large pound baby. I took the test around 26 weeks (came out negative) and had to take it again (37 weeks) since they found protein and high sugars in my urine. This time it came out positive for Gestational Diabetes. I didn't think that I would get it but I ended up getting it at 37 weeks along!
Don't worry too much, you don't need any extra stress.
The doctor will tell you when you are going to have it done. All that happens is you get your blood drawn, then you drink this orange glucose drink and wait 3 hours until they draw your blood again. This will determine whether or not you will have Gestational Diabetes. Hope this helps.

If you have the risk factors, then all the more reason to get this test done. It really isn't that bad. They give some orange drink, you have a couple minutes to get down, then you wait an hour and they will draw your blood. At this time my doctor also checked for anemia. I got my results by phone the next day. I passed the glucose screening, but was extremely anemic. You need to think about the risk factors of having diabetes and being pregnant. This is for your baby here.

Yes, it is required that you have to take the test - even more important for you since you were once borderline diabetic.
Don't worry - the test itself is painless (although the orange drink is pretty nasty). In the long run, it's best for both you and your baby to get tested! I know you dont' want to take it because you are afraid of what the result will be - but it's much better to know than not know. And in most cases gestational diabetes is simply treated through diet and resolves itself after the birth. Good luck!

It is not required...but given your history, you have more than enough risk factors to warrant the test!
And you will WANT to know, because even though you think you "can't deal with that", you'll want to deal with it to prevent any harm from your child.
I didn't have any family history, but my test came back positive. Don't worry, it's not as bad as it seems. You just need to be very conscious about what you are eating and make sure you monitor your blood sugar. It's easy, really.
I would start to prepare yourself for a positive result now...given your history, I'd say it'd very likely. So, get in the habit of writing down what you eat now, so that you're in the mode if it does come back positive.
But don't be nervous...there is nothing you can do to prevent it from happening.
Make sure you are exercising (try a 30 min walk 5-6 nights a week or water aerobics) and eating right, you will also need those habits later!!!

Relax sweetheart in the best interest of your own health and your baby's health, Yes, you very much need to take this test.
Even with gestational Diabetes your baby would be at rish of gaining too much wieght in utero which could cause completcation with your delivery.
It truly is best to know all your risks and conditions than hide your head in the sand hoping that you don't have or don't develope dibetes during this pregnancy. Besides the test is very simple and not a big ordeal to have done.
Good Luck and Have a healthy baby.

Well, no test is required since you're in charge of your own medical choices. But it would be silly to not take it, because if you do have GD, you doctor will work with you to manage it so it won't cause problems for you or your baby.
The first test is a one hour test--you'll drink an orange soda-like drink (it's not too bad, just terribly sweet) then they test your blood. If that comes back high, they'll do a three hour test to confirm.

Yes you should take it seeing that your mum and dad are Diabetics.
I have been a Diabetic for 35 years and it took me four years to get pregnant.
I have three sister-in-laws that become Diabetic while pregnant and then clear of Diabeties after their children were born. But because the babies were all over 10lb they (sister-in-laws) have a 50% chance of becomming Diabetics within 15 years.
Yep .... have the test.
