Crystal River is at in intersection of US 19 and Florida 44. The town is growing at a rate slower than the larger towns in Florida. Crime is not that big of a problem. That's good since the police force isn't all that hot. You won't find the college grads flocking to join the force like Orlando.

Personally I like Lecanto better, it's East on 44 closer to Inverness.

You won't find the big box stores here but they are within an hours drive. You'll drive that far in Tampa, Orlando or Miami to get to stores. There are home improvement stores if you need to purchase those type supplies.

Recreation abound in the area. South on 19 is Hommassa Springs State Park, wonderful place to see manatees. There are 2 state parks in Crystal River. Golf courses in town and the surrounding area. Since you will be so close to the Gulf of Mexico, salt water fishing should satisfy you.

Two hours from Disney if you need that kind of thing.

Tampa is about an hour and a half South.

A short ways North is Yankeetown home of one of Floridas nuclear power plants and the remnants of the ill famed cross Florida barge canal.

Goggle it for more of your needs.
