Simular to the air marsals on airplanes? They could carry a concealed weapon and come to the defence of the students in the event of an attack.

No
If students are too stupid to demand that people like Cho be removed from campus, or put in a mental facility or reported to the police, if administrators are too stupid to know that an event is taking place, what good would armed guards be?
There were plenty of clues that Cho was a nutcase, but young people apparently aren't wired to do anything about it. How in hell can you live in the same room with someone and not talk to him for a full year?

NO! We already have the state intruding far too much in our lives--usually on the pretext offered by a freak event like the VT tragedy.

Maybe you want to live in a police state. But if you do--you lose your freedom in exchange for a dictatorship that will kill a lot more people than a few deranged individuals ever will--including YOU, if you dare to disagree with them. And if you study history, you'll discover that is one of the few "rules" about human society to which there are NO exceptions.

What would the ratio be, one student in every classroom? or just one in the building? Your chances of this being effective seems low. Plus that seems like an expensive option for that rare occasion.

If they were to do anything, then I think metal detectors would be the way to go. But, in the end, their will always be ways around whatever defense one sets up.

I believe the greatest defense we have is to teach good and correct principles and then let the people govern themselves.

How will that work one in each building???? In theory everything WORK but in reality how do u go about implementing that??? I know life is priceless but i can imagine it cost financial resource to hire an armed, and trained security/ actor for attack that's less often & less predictable than solar eclipse.............. It is unfortunated event like this happened.......... I mean like wouldn't the same go for high school, middle school & elementary school........

there should be well trained security on campus (not those slug campus police) and any student with a mental disability and extreme social issues should be taken seriously

mar m- i might have to disagree with you. when i was in college, there was this girl who barely spoke to anybody and if she did it was only in class if someone was to say something to her. Students should not be responsible for everysingle outcast in school, they need to worry about their grades!

You would need an awful lot of them to cover everyone on a campus that size.
