I have owned HP (the support was terrible), Epson (the ink would dry up after no printing for a week) and several others and I was never happy with any printer I bought until I tried a Canon.
Canon printers are the best. I have a Pixma 6000 and I love it. I liked it so much, I bought my parents a Canon all in one printer / scanner and my 60 year old dad uses it every day and loves it. He had non-stop problems with a HP.
Now, almost everyone in my family owns a Canon printer and I never have to help them fix problems - they always work and print beautiful pictures.
Also, Canon ink tanks seem to hold more ink and use less than other printers. Since the ink tanks don't have any electronics or print head built in, they are cheaper too.

iv got an Epson c88+ its great love it to death. i would stick with it . but it has no scanner so thats its only down point. if you are buying a new printer stay with canon HP and Epson. and what ever you do stay away from Lxmark they suck. i bought one and it didnt print right after only 4 pages. and then i have friends how bought the higher end ones and have compatibly problems with them. even after downloading the drivers for it.
