Yess!!! "If" by Rudyard Kipling is one brilliant poem. It has more than mere figures of speech(lol)..coz it teaches a lot. I think it is one of the poems that I can recite by heart. Though poetry doesn't appeal so greatly to me, I'm sure this is an universal poem!!

I'm not quite sure what you are asking. I can say though that Robert Frost is a wonderful poet that does not use simile. On a more cynical and sarcastic side Charles Bukowski doesn't much either.

There was a good poem I once heard on that early 80's show called Hee Haw it went like this:
Where oh where are you tonight?
Why did you leave me here all alone?
I searched the world over and thought I found true love.
You met another and......phbbbbbt you were gone.
