Why do so many people think the vow "I do" is meaningless?

Unfortunately, it just seems so much easier to do that these days. We don't want to work at anything, much less something as hard as a GOOD relationship.

Because if a person considered a wedding vow as a contract between the two people and God as a binding contract, perhaps we'd have less divorces, because more people would take those vows as something not to be entered into lightly.
