Have you checked the transmission fluid level???? Try that first, if it isnt low it could be a stopped up filter or else you got a bad transmission.

There may be a lock out override that keeps you from putting it in gear until you have your foot on the brake pedal. It's on the side of the shifter and has a small cap covering it. Read your owner's manual as to where it may be if you have one. You can push a small screwdriver down there to release it to put it in gear. This is a temporary fix but will help you until the repair is made. It is usually a minor repair but mechanics will rip you off for it anyway. I know someone that had this problem recently.

did you remember to put the torque converter bolts in? check the fluid.. if its full & the car doesn't move its probably shot.. have somebody look under it to see if the driveshaft is turning while its in Drive..

Make sure that the transmission is the right one for that vehicle. New technology may be preventing it from working.
Call your dealer to make sure that there was no changeups to another design.
