It's an approximation. Pi is an irrational number, which means that it never repeats and it never ends. What you have there is a close approximation of Pi, but it isn't really Pi. :-)

Maybe. But that many decimal places will make engineers, in particular, laugh at you. Cut it back to what is realistic for the problem to be solved and the measurements available. Sort of like measuring the size of a Jello desert in angstroms and publishing it to 15 decimal places.

pi is a trancendental figure without resolution and has no units. However it looks like the digits I am familiar with are valid.....which is about 8 places or so.

What do you mean "unit?" You have there an approximate value of π.

You could always just go with 3.14159. That's good enough for government work.
