you can look at a blowtorch but an arc welder is too bright, it emits too much light through your pupils because they can't contract enough to control the amount of light.

Come on now, are you really that stupid? Why don't you conduct a experiment...

First step: Go get a blow torch.
Step 2: Turn it on
Step 3: Look into the flame for about 5 minutes.
Step 4: Note results...that is if you can see well enough to write.

If you look into a blow torch, what happens is proablly permenate damage. My boyfriend did that, and he couldn't see straight for a month, but he got really lucky.

I've never had a problem looking at them. An arc welder is another story though; too bright. It'll give you cataracts.
