I think it is best to do research on the different breeds of dogs first. It just depends on what you want out of a dog. Do you want playful. Do you want a guard dog. These are questions you need to ask yourself. I think the best route to go is rescue. If you really want a pure breed there are rescues out there as well. I own a German Shepard/Golden Retriever. She is the best very well behaved easy to train. Now since she is Golden she chewed up things for almost 2 years and she doesn't like to be left alone. Not all Goldens are like this but its a characteristic of them. Do do some research and adopt and enjoy being a pet owner the rewards are too many to number

As the owner of many dogs in the past and presently TWO GREAT DANES, I can tell you that it is not a simple question. There are MANY factors to cosider before choosing a dog, almost least of which is which one you think is cutest (of course you want to find one you love). Many factors to consider: size of dog (do you live in an apartment, house, small yard, big yard, etc.?), personality traits of dog ( a herder (worry wart), a lap dog (wants constant attention), etc. This is VERY IMPORTANT. If you get a dog that thrives on constant attention (they all need a lot) and you are never around, its a bad combo. Once you see a dog you like the looks of you should read up on the breed to learn of their personality traits and make sure it is compatible with what you want and need. Its a big decision so do your homework and make it an informed one. HAving a dog is like having a child, and its important that you enter into it with the right information and expectations.

what kind you want depends on a few factors .. what size dog you want, where you live, how much room does the dog have outside, will it be an outside only dog, how much time do you have to spend with it, some breeds do have a tendency to bark more, do you have kids or planning to, do you mind whether or not if it loses alot of hair.
for example i have kids who nap during the day, so i didn't want a yappy dog & i don't like to have a dog that sheds alot, & i wanted a dog that is good with kids, also i wanted a smaller dog....so i picked a shitzu.. i have had many other breeds/sizes of dogs but that is the kind that suited me and my family right now ... good luck in finding the right dog for you!

Depends on what you are looking for in a dog. I have a dog encylopedia that tells everything you need to know about every breed of dog. It's great, here is a website for you to check out if you want.

We adopted the best dog at a shelter! She is a lab/greyhound mix. Check out the shelter before you buy a dog, there are so many animals who need homes, there is no reason to buy some hyper pure breed.

Your question is too vague. Do you want a dog that you can travel with? Exercise with? Couch potatoe? Long hair? Do you care if he barks constantly? Apartment? Big yard? There are so many different breeds and without knowing more about you, there's no way any one here can give you an honest answer.

I have a 4 year old Pug named Ludwig, he's perfect for me.

I have a beagle, doberman and yellow lab. The doberman is the smartest, but the lab is the most loyal and obedient.

Yellow labs are awesome dogs. There is a reason they are the most popular breed and most sought after for service and therapy work.

I believe that Border Terriers are the best because they are so loving and intelligent. I am glad to own one, and am happy that I got one to begin with. They are the best dogs ever!

I have a lab/mastiff mix that's just a sweetie. He's been such a good dog. I like bigger dogs. It seems like they're less high strung and have a better temperment, in my opinion.

Golden Retriever, they have the best personality. But really any dog is great it depends on how you treat it.
