That depends which country he's in (and what he's wanted for). There are temp agencies that specialize in construction work. I went to one and had a lot of ex-felon coworkers at a factory I was placed at.
Other then temp agencies, supermarkets, charity shops, bars and computer agencies often hire ex-felons. Banks and schools are usually off limits, but just about every other industry has ex-felons in it.
Oh, and I agree that he should look for the job if he can read. But there's no harm in looking with him.

Well, in my city I know there's a telemarketing firm that hires everyone. However, they treat their employees like fertilizer. But it is a weekly check and pays the bills - barely!! I wish him the best, I have 4 numbers and have not been in any type of trouble since 2000 and can not get a decent job even with above average office skills.

Since this is your first question, I'll answer as nice as I can.
HE SHOULD be the one looking for the job.
Have HIM go to the employment agency and fill out the paperwork.
He needs to step up and be a man!

If I were an employer, I'd never hire him. Why?
Not because he has a record, but because
you are doing what HE should be doing.
Let him come in, give me a good reason why I should hire him, and we'll talk about it.
