I re-watched it today and cant get over the sillyness of it.
I mean, why go to that bar for a drink, all the bar ladies do is dance on top of it. Which is fine, if you bring your own bottle. How does it make money? Violet does 3 shifts and on 2 of them a fight breaks out and she is sacked. The third time, when she is eventually hired, two police men come in and tell the bar owner she has 50 people too many in her bar, THEN says (after a huge fight which violets stops by singing??? weird) "this is your last warning lil". But isnt the bar still over crowded?
If you got a job there would you not be worried that there is only one bouncer on the door and he never seems to do is stand at the door.
And why did the fire marshall who violet soaked, charge the bar owner for it? Or was it because she wasnt up-to date with her fire regulations, and if thats the case, why did she make violet pay it back. Does anyone else think this film is silly?

every once in awhile a movie comes out that is completely unwatchable without the assistance of a bong. coyote ugly is one of those movies.
what i would like to really know is why so many men would toss money around to watch fully clothed women dance on a bar in a city full of strip clubs. i know its sexist. but its still a very valid point.

I was watching the film and the girls were cute but fully clothed and I kept waiting for a plot to get interested in , but it never materialized. When there is literally NO plot, it is very boring. I wonder if those women who work really really hard to look good, starving themselves and buying clothes and make up and staring in front of a mirror for hours , but yet never have sex or a boyfriend would like this movie? There was a lot of posing going on and this type of woman likes to be sort of a model but yet never get paid and never have their picture taken.
I have literally seen rock videos with more in depth plot lines than this piece of crap. I do think perhaps this film was made to stimulate questions- Did the writers mean to put a story but forget ? Did they hide the story like with actors communicating with facial expressions, Like in the movie "Go" when Jay Morhr mouthed "go" to that blonde Canadian actress who's name NOBODY ever remembers ? Maybe the actors were communicating in a pitch only dogs could hear and there was a storyoline in that.? I mean, they could have been speaking another language and I would have been more entertained, so maybe they were speaking esperanto or pig latin and I just didn't recognize it?
In any case, the movie could be used side by side with old Saved by The Bell reruns in competition for what was more UNWATCHABLE, so it could have some purpose we are not even thinking of SO THERE, you elitist film school wanna be's , there could be a reason why the rich granddad of whomever made this thing bankrolled it

Yes I have watched it and it's great for what it is, a corny B movie ....I was very surprised that it was based on something true, where I live there is no dancing on bars allowed (I live in Utah) Also I figure, how do ANY of these women make money because if you're a guy, sorry if this offends you men about this stereotype, wouldn't you rather just go watch a stripper than go to watch a woman dance on top of a bar. Then again, I've never been to one of these types of bars or clubs so I really wouldn't understand why this is more entertaining than just going watch a stripper.

Then don't watch the show on CMT called the Ultimate Coyote Ugly that showcases the best of the Coyotes training fledging coyotes to dance, bartend, sell and entertain. Picking the best herself is the woman who is the inspiration for the movie, Lil.
I must admit, it's total schlock and I have seen it. It's about as entertaining as the movie was.
To carswoody: There are half naked girls dancing on a bar, does that sound like a chickflick? Better rent it so you can see for yourself! ;-)

I think the answer is that when you watch a movie you never see them going to the toilet do you - even on 24....
You never see them do anything mundane because that would be boring - even Big Brother is edited to highlights.
The truth is that a film which spent 2 hours of well behaved men being served drinks would be like watching the CCTV of a Wetherspoons - pretty dull. It's got to be exciting to keep you interested - if it showed real life then no one would watch it.

Actually I thought the film was entertaining and very true to form for how bars of that type are in real life. You are overanalyzing a movie for God's sake. If there are parts you do not understand, or if this film is so silly to you, then why rewatch it?

Yeah it is. Just a corny B grade movie but some people like that kind of thing. A lot of people would like to go a bar where Tyra Banks dances on top of it.

Good heaven's, I've never met a person who analyzed Coyote Ugly before. It's a movie, not real life (although there really are bars called Coyote Ugly) and not meant to be realistic.

Wow...I've never analyzed that movie to the extent you just did, but you make some valid points. Basically it boils down to it being a lame movie, lame premise, and some bad acting. The only redeeming feature is that there's a few good looking women dancing and fighting. That's about it.

I completely see where you are coming from - it is a silly film but I still find it very very funny, and it makes me go tingly at the end, with a very happy feeling!
Love the dancing Dad bit - great!
