The high court rule against partial birth abortion.
Now maybe just maybe both sides can come out of their foxholes and work towards a solution rather than staying entrenched in their belief my way or the highway.

What do you think can we have a reasonable debate?

Let me add Pro-choice has also held some very hard ground too.
For example a minor can have an abortion with out parental permission or even have judge part of the decision yet the same minor can't even get her ears pierced with parent's premssion.
24 hour waiting period was meet with fury by Pro-choice.
In short don't tell me that Pro-choice isn't as dead set to move as Pro-life.

I think we can have a honest open debate on the issue. I really could not see any reason why partial-birth abortion was allowed. The point at which it was performed the infant would have been able to survive on its own so even in the case of the health of the mother they could deliver the infant and at least give it a chance at life.

I am a Christian and I believe that life begins at conception but I do not think we should outlaw abortion. I think Roe v Wade is bad law but I do not think it should be repealed. I think abortion is wrong but Christians need to consider what could happen to women who would attempt risky abortion procedures if it was outlawed.

I support parental notification. A person under 18 cannot even be admitted into a hospital without a parents consent. I do not see how they can have a medical procedure without consent.

people don't want to work at things. its been pointed out by moderates and people willing to hear both sides that abortion isn't the issue- the need for it is.
there are too many abortions each year. we need to figure out why there are so many and how to cut down on them- not legally but through making abortion not be the best option(IE having better options).

it should always be legal because its a health issue and its a control/women's right issue. this is something for females and their doctors to handle. and its better than women dying in back alley abortions or because they don't have an abortion and die because they can't physically handle a pregnancy. and there are also numerous problems when someone is forced to keep a fetus they don't want and possibly even raise a baby they don't want.

you have to understand that those who oppose abortion do so because they see it as a young human being.
it would be like saying that it would be more a reasonable comprimise if hitler only wished to kill 75% of jews.
pro choice folks seem to believe that the fetus changes from part of the mother to an automous human somewhere during gestation (usually around the age of viability), pro lifers see just a gradal development, with no magic day where the soul enters.
the standard for pro choicers may change, but there is no real room for compramise for pro lifers.

The banned procedure isn't even practiced anymore. There are several other third trimester abortion procedures NOT covered by the ban.

The only reasonable thing to say is that there is NO political solution to abortion. Go ahead-- make it illegal. That will stop it? NO!

How do you compromise?

"Hey, you can partially kill the fetus."

You either allow the fetus to be killed or you make it a crime to kill a fetus.

There is no compromise.
