Question a)
d² = 4² + 8²
d² = 80
d = 4√5
Question b)
Mab = (13 - 5) / 4 = 2
y - 13 = 2(x - 4)
y - 13 = 2x - 8
y = 2x + 5
Question c)
Mperp. = - 1/2
y - 5 = (- 1/2).x
y = (-1/2).x + 5

a) length= Under root (4-0) square+ (13-5) square
= under root (16+64)
= under root (80)
=4 under root 5

b) slope of line AB= 13-5/4-0 =8/4= 2
Equation of AB=>
(y-5)=2(x-0)
y-5=2x
y=2x+5

c) let m=2 ( slope of line AB)
and slope of perpendicular = n
then mxn= -1
so slope of perp. to AB = n= -1/2
Equation of line through A =>
(y-5)= -1/2 (x-0)
y-5 = -1/2 x
2y-10 = -x
2y+x =10
Hope this solves your problem!!!

Draw a quick graph, it'll help you. The length of the line can easily be worked out from pythagoras. Then work out the equation of the line by remembering that y=mx+c. m is the gradient (i.e. change in y over change in x) and c is the intercept (a graph will really help you with this). The intercept can be worked out by plugging in values that you know (i.e point A or point B) and working out what you need to add or subtract to get the value you know it should be.

Then, perpendicular means 90 degrees to. So the gradeint of the line perpenicular to AB is -1/m where m is the gradient of the line AB. The intercept can be worked out by plugging in values that you know (i.e point A or point B) and working out what you need to add or subtract to get the value you know it should be.

If this is homework, the best way to learn maths is to play around with it and do it. Duh!

a) d(AB) = √[(4 - 0)² + (13 - 5)² ] = ...

b) m = (5 - 13)/(0 - 4) = 2
y - 5 = 2(x - 0)
-2x + y = 5

c) m = -1/2
y - 5 = (-1/2)(x - 0)
(1/2)x + y = 5

a)square root of (4-0)^2+(13-5)^2=length of AB
b) y-5 x-0
----- = -------
13-5 4-0
this will give you equation

4y=8x+20
y=2x+5
c)ı don't know the third one
