A guy in my league is trying to divest himself of Ryan Howard (I guess he doesn't want to wait it out and see). I proposed a trade to him - Morneau for Howard (straight up). He's interested, but claims he also got an offer of Ortiz for Howard (straight up).

He counter offered back and said he would give me Howard and Ted Lilly for Morneau and Justin Verlander.

Personally, I'm looking at Howard much like I look at an undervalued stock. His upside potential is so great, that I'm willing to take the risk that his performance will increase. His contact rate and line drive rate is solid, but he's just not getting the breaks.

What are your thoughts?
Morneau and Verlander for Howard and Lilly. Is it a good trade for me?

Personally I wouldn't take the trade. Howard for Morneau straight up is fair. But you giving up on Verlander for Lilly would be just ridiculously sad. Lilly is done, he's left-handed and managers love left handed pitching. Verlander is young and very promising, 1.42 ERA at the moment not too shabby. Plus he's on a winning team with Detroit and compare the lineups Tigers have a bigger advantage than Chi Cubs all do to Placido Polanco the deserving All - Star, finally this year. Howard is great for a youngster, but because of last year he will not see the same type of pitching! Awareness is the key for the pitchers, lots of off the plate pitches trying to get him to swing. Patience will pay off though, but nothing compared to last year. MVP For MVP sounds good. The importance is looking at the teams and the divisions that they play in. AL Central has Detroit and then the Twins with Chi White Sox up their tails only if they decide to be a championship contender, Cleveland wont do anything special. NL East has the Atlanta, New York, Florida, then Philadelphia but currently in last. Philly's team is off to a slow start, believe me, I know with Utley's slow start. If you have to get rid of Morneau thats OK, but DO NOT get rid of Verlander, NO DEAL!!!!!!!!!

Coming from a Philadelphia phan who wants more than anyone for Howard to put up 58 HRs and 140 RBIs again...dont count on it. The league is walking him so much that he cant get into a rhythm and he is getting frustrated. Morneau is only a step or two below howard due to higher batting average and runs scored, and Verlander is in another atmosphere compared to Ted Lilly (who has been over hyped with no production since GW's first term)

in case you our truly in the back of then do the commerce. yet are not getting me incorrect the commerce is genuine sturdy. Justin is having an excellent movie star 365 days. Pence is likewise a some what 5 device OF. Pence grants you with a HR the following and there, also SBs, and a sturdy avg. i ought to do the commerce is you're somewhat out of the race. And of late Johan has no longer been that enormous. Helton is a loss yet Justin makes up that and extra.

if your pitching is good enough to give up verlander then go for it. I would wait though until howard shows that last year wasnt a fluke. Until he starts hitting i wouldnt do that.

I believe Mourneau believe it or not is as good or better than Howard. Verlander is way way way out of Lilly's league. He's way better!!! That is not a good counter offer at all. Don't do it!!!

I would say...probably its a good trade. You only know how strong your starting pitching is. If you have a couple other pitchers who are better than Verlander on your staff, go for it.
