Bela Lugosi for me too. When I think of Dracula my mind sees him. Yes the Hammer Films are great.

When I was a little we had a baby sitter who watched Dark Shadows in the afternoon. I remember liking the show a lot and enjoyed watching it with her. Barnabas Collins was the dracula on that show. I've caught some of the episodes on cable over the years and find it a bit campy but still a pretty good show.
I also grew up sneaking out of bed late at night and watching Christopher Lee as Dracula. I really enjoyed the 25 or more movies that Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing made together.

Bela Lugosi is the classic incarnation and he became the character. He was even buried in his dracula attire.
Christopher Lee is fan cult favourite and I also grew up watching him battle it out with Peter Cushing's Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman's sucks so hard it hurts, I like the cartoon, though.)
And finally, we reach Gary Oldman who, for me, fleshed out the character making him a real tragic human.
Those are my three favourite draculas, I couldn't tell which of them I like most.

Same as you.
I can remember walking round black park in Iver Buckinghamshire when they were filming a Christopher Lee Dracula Hammer Horror film at Pinewood studios. It was spooky as it was very misty and the lake in park took on the personna just right for the film. Other things were not quite so natural like the polystrene head stones on the graves.
The rest was authentic especially the coach that Christopher Lee was travelling in when they were shooting certain scences.

Gerard Butler in Dracula 2000 - okay so the film itself was a bit weak and some of the dialogue is just terrible but you could watch it for his performance alone. He absolutely smoulders in it. He's a much more interesting Dracula than the old, creaky ones. Gary Oldman was great too. I find the portrayals of Dracula in the older movies far too one dimensional, they don't add anything to the character.

I agree that Bela Lugosi was the best. I love the old horror movies that left something to the imagination. I have a CD pack of 50 old horror movies that is soooo much fun to watch!!

He might not be the best vampire ever but Gary Oldman is the best Dracula. He has the tortured heartbroken love, hunger & madness mix that makes the character of Dracula, down perfectly in that film.
On a slightly related note, I think DeNiro is the best ever Frankenstiens monster & Jason Flemying is a great Dr Jekyll/ Mr Hyde.

Gary Oldman really freaked me out as Dracula. I think hes the best Ive ever seen. The bloke who plays Dracula in Blade Trinity is really sexy, but he cant act very well. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt didnt play Dracula in Interview With The Vampire, they were just vampires

Lee owned that role, hands down. and when he went up against Cushing, those two brought a real sense of style and class to the genre.
my next best Dracula--Frank Langella. he did a very good job in the role too.

there are such extremely some remarkable passages in Dracula; a close reading exhibits so a lot more beneficial than I initially stated in my first reading of it. The vampire brides and Johnathon bit is hilarious in case you examine between the lines. i do not truly % out with any of the characters myself, yet i for my section extremely beloved Dracula himself. I had large sympathy for him, even with being the large personality contained in the unconventional.
