2005 G35 Coupe WITH a Supercharger- Saw it Dyno with my own eyes at 407 hp at the wheels. (this is an additional 123 hp over stock 6spd man g35 coupe)

2005 Mustang Cobra- Rated at 395 hp at the crank, so probably closer to 360-370 at the wheels.

not too valid a comparison... The cars are not competition for each other....

first off - the G35 (as you stated) is not stock... there's a lot of money put into that car....

But the typical G35 buyer is not looking for all out power... they're looking for a sporty/sports car with some luxury and some power.... They're generally looking at cars like the BMW 3 series coupe and the 6/8 series from BMW.... or a Mercedes 2 door....

The typical Mustang (cobra or otherwise) buyer is not looking for a luxury sports/sporty car... they're looking for a Pony car - a hold out from the Muscle car era....

If I was offered either of these cars, I'd probably take the G35 and then sell it to some rich kid that is wowed by numbers like that.... Then go buy something else that I liked....

Oh, and just for the record - horsepower does not a great car make.... Sure, you can get some speed out of it - but without the TORQUE to put that power to the road, you've got nothing.... and how often are you really going to be able to use that power on the typical american road or street...?

First off, if you put the G35 on a Dyno, why didn't you put the Cobra on a Dyno too.

Second, we all know that manufacturers rate their cars lower more for the customer because a lower rating typically means lower insurance rates. Ford has consistently rated their mustangs with a LOWER horse power than they can acutally generate because this allows for lower insurance rates.

You can't compare apples to oranges. If you dyno'd one car you MUST dyno the other to get true apples to apples compairson.

Finally, many auto manufacturers per the government must put on restrictors and engine controls to limit engine hp. This has nothing to do with the design of American cars and engines and more to do with government regulations. America produces some of the best engineers in the world.

From wikipedia (Yeah they aren't always accurate but...)
"Debuting in early 2002, the 2003 Cobra came with a supercharged 4.6 L DOHC engine rated at 390 hp (291 kW) and 390 ft·lbf (529 N·m) of torque. It was later learned that SVT (Special Vehicle Team) had underrated the Cobra, as many owners have reported 430 hp (321 kW) and 430 ft·lbf (583 N·m) of torque."

Grand National cars make 750+ horsepower without fuel injection or superchargers, and can go 200+ miles per hour.

Would that be a fair comparison to the modified G35?

the G35 is an overall better car, but wil also be more expensive. The cobra has a weak suspension and brakes for a performance car.

that being said, if power is the ultimate goal, the cobra has the upper hand. Theyre so moddable its not even funny.
