A lot of innocent people(myself included) are going to catch a l of hell because we are loners and dress in black a lot. I was forwarded an email that described two white males who wear dressed in black. The email pretty much already convicted the two men simply because they were wearing black. Columbine was even mentioned. All they were doing was going through a building on their way to class, minding their own business. I have encountered many things like this in the past despite the fact that I never did anything other than go about my day. A good day is when no one bothers me. However, I am apparently a crazed maniac because I am a loner who wears black a lot. I hate that a lot of innocent people are going to hear a bunch of nonsense.

By the way, I would never condone such an action. I just want people to know this kind of thing happens. The public safety department received seven calls about me in one year and in every instance nothing ever came of it.

First and foremost, I want to express my sympathies to the people who were devastated by the shooting rampage at VT. This kind of horror has occurred all too often in our nation, leaving people to wonder why thing like this happen.
The motivation behind all human cruelty has been explained to me through Aesthetic Realism, founded by the great American educator Eli Siegel. Mr. Siegel showed that contempt, “the addition to self through the lessening of something else,” is the cause of all human injustice. Contempt can take many forms: making fun of the way someone dresses, laughing at a person when they make a
mistake or ignoring a co-worker when they are talking.
Taken further, contempt is what has a person deny the reality, the feelings of other people to the point they can take those people’s lives. The study of contempt and its opponent —
good will — is a national emergency.
Therefore, to suppose that a person who wears "black" or one who may seem like a "loner", for that matter, is nothing but an act of racism. There are ways to prevent this kind of horrible, terrible acts from happening. States and cities need to enforce more stronger laws for gun sellers. Additionally, College and universities especially need review students on a frequently basis, not just their academic performances but rather on a social performance to stop this from happening in the future.

I can't believe some of these answers. Are you kidding me? Why should myself or anyone have to stop wearing black? Because some of you can't handle it? Not everyone who wears black all the time is emo or goth. Get a clue people.
DRAGON, I know what you mean. I don't wear as much black as I use to but still wear it alot. But I still get stereotyped at times as someone who is depressed and unhappy with life when it's quite the contrary. I wear black because 1, its my favorite color and 2- I only like 3 colors (blue, purple and black). I don't own a single article of clothing that is white (not even socks), orange, yellow, brown or pink. Thats just how I am. We live in a society of followers where everyone is expected to conform to the latest trends of popped collars and khaki pants. Yet we are the ones who are disturbed? I guess later today i'll go get my Starbucks coffee and then run home to watch American idol so the masses won't label me an emo killer.

It's the goth hidden image portrayed in video games and the media that offer up alot of prejudice, in my opinion. You should feel free to wear display your own manner as you wish. If people appear to threaten you go to your counselor or student advocate for professional advise. If you are feeling sad or depressed talk about it with someone u trust. The key is open communication. Some may be afraid because of the unknown with all the horror at VTech and other school shootings. I used to wear all black until a good friend taught me to add some color into my life.
See what works for you. Hang in there kiddo because you are never alone.
God Bless u and the USA!

Being a college grad, I know that one encounters a bunch of different types on a campus. The bigger the campus, the more diverse the types of people one encounters.
Of course, the narrow-minded and fearful will try to "type" people, and in effect, convict them due to their own bias.
It was proven that the guy that did it was a loner, but I hardly see him as being ballsy enough to wear clothing that would make him stand out in a crowd.
Basically, the author of the e-mail is very narrow minded, and his opinion should be taken as such.

A lot of people might do you like that, sure. And others who are similar to you in their minds. Just like some people will freak out if a 20something black man comes and sits next to them on a near empty bus, or if a middle-easterner sits down next to them on an airplane. That's the world we live in. We receive our stereotypes (most often media-fed and created) and react accordingly in every day life.
Don't get defensive and know that you've got nothing to hide and aren't planning something wicked and evil. In other words, you keep your head up (or however you hold it). You know you may catch some crap in the days to come. Don't play yourself into it.

Dress like everyone else for 30 days until that kind of BS stupidity dies down. Should you have to do that? No. But the reality is that your life will be easier if you do.
And take a pretty girl out on the town. Who knows, you might get lucky.

If you feel that way...maybe you should dress differently till this all blows over. You can't change being a loner though. But I am sure you have other clothes that are not black in color. You know since 911 everything has changed and we all had to adjust to these changes.

Government and Racism

"The true antidote to racism is liberty. Liberty means having a limited, constitutional government devoted to the protection of individual rights rather than group claims. Liberty means free-market capitalism, which rewards individual achievement and competence, not skin color, gender, or ethnicity."

Unfortunely we live in a society that often judges people by the way they look. How do you think the innocent Korean people will be treated from now on? Just be yourself, and don't worry about what other people think.
