Hi All, We have a 8ft x 4ft pond in our garden which we want to keep i cleaned it out of stuff that had blown in over the summer and removed a rock that also fell in, in doing this i think i may have uncovered a puncture as the pond is dropping. The pond is very green so makes seeing where the hole is very hard. I have tried yellow pages to find repair service (Colchester area) but to no avail. any help much appreciated

Your best bet is to purchase a pond liner repair kit and do it yourself. Here's two links you may find useful.

Hope that helps

Do you have a plastic pond? Since you have drained it now is a good time to find the leak. More than likely, check where your large rock fell it. It could have just cracked the pond. Aquarium sealant is your best bet and won't hurt your fish. Chances are the sand beneath it had settled and left a gap. Use a razor blade or a stiff bristle brush and scrub around the area where the rock was last seen! I had this happen when a paving stone fell in. Gently push the bottom of the pond and you will see the crack. These suckers are pretty durable and even when cracked are slow leakers (Thank God). Once the algae (and it can be removed safely with Hydrogen Peroxide won't hurt fish and doesn't need to be washed out) Use the aquarium sealant to seal up the crack. Extend the sealant about 5-7 inches away from the ends of the crack. (A man at the garden center told me you can also use a sodder gunto melt the top layer back together before you add the sealant, however I didn't do this for fear of burning a large hole in my pond)

If you have a liner (and this can be with a preform as well) Homedepot and Lowes have repair tape and sealant. It is in the garden center with the liners and preforms. Basically it is like a PVC glue with an industrial duct tape (Comes in a few colors) Quick and easy.

Any garden center that sells preforms should have this tape and glue. Good luck.

many times in the past when the ponds weren't made out of the polycarbite they are now. They do sell pond repair kits at lowes and home depot. Basically it is a water proof plastic patch with a fiberglass coating. I never found it toxic to fish and it actually does work quickly and under water. I haven't had to fix one in a while but the kits are still available.
